Avvo.com is a website that says their goal is to make legal advice easier and more affordable to access, so that users can get the help they need without worrying about expense.
How Does It Work?
Avvo.com provides legal help in three different and important ways. First, they have a large Question and Answer forum where people are invited to post their legal questions and receive answers from lawyers and people in the legal field. If you don’t see the question you need, you have the ability to post your specific question and have someone answer it for you.
If the open Question and Answer forum does not fit your needs because you require more specific legal advice, you can use their Avvo Advisor feature, which allows you to choose the topic you need advice on, then submit your contact information and a top rated Avvo lawyer will contact you the same day to provide with the information you need.
Finally, Avvo.com also provides a directory of lawyers, claiming that their directory contains 97% of the active lawyers at work in the United States today, along with their profiles, client reviews, and an Avvo rating.
Both the Question and Answer forum and the Avvo Directly are completely free to use. The Avvo Advisor feature promises users that for a flat charge of $39, they will have a top rated lawyer from their directory call you back within just 15 minutes to answer whatever questions you have. At this time, the website does not publish a question or time limit.
Unfortunately this website provides no information regarding a Refund Policy. The website does say that users who purchase a “premium feature” of their website should not that fees are non-refundable, but it is unclear if Avvo Advisor is considered a premium feature. In addition, the website says that users have a “satisfaction guarantee” when they use their Advisor feature, but nowhere on the website can you find details of this “guarantee,” which means that it’s more of a sales tactic than an actual company policy.
Customer Service Contact Info
Customers who would like to contact Customer Service with any questions, concerns, or complaints can do so by submitting them directly to their website through the Contact Us link.
Avvo.com suffers from poor reviews which actually seem very consistent in their content, whether they have been posted by a user of their website or by a lawyer who is registered on their website. These complaints say that the Avvo website has serious problems with their review system, with claims by users that negative reviews will not be accepted for certain lawyers, unfairly showing that they have mostly positive reviews. The lawyers, on the other hand, say that when negative reviews are posted, this website has no standards for verifying the reviews, giving people an unfair ability to attack their reputation even if they have never actually been a client of the lawyer in question.
Competitors and Alternatives?
There are many other websites which intend to help people with legal advice depending on your specific needs, like Wevorce for divorce, ILawsuit.com for personal injury, LawDepot for standard legal forms, and many others.
