Brandless.com is the online home of Brandless, a new company that says their goal is to change the traditional grocery and drugstore buying experience by giving their customers better stuff for fewer dollars.
How Does It Work?
According to their website, Brandless is a company that wants to provide their customers with a full range of food and household products without something they call the BrandTax.
BrandTax is the hidden cost consumers pay for national brands. Brandless says that customers have been trained to believe that these brands and their costs are indicative of higher quality items, but this simply isn’t the case.
Brandless estimates that the average customer pays at least 40% more for brand name products comparable to their own, and sometimes the costs will be up to 370% more for beauty products. Brandless says that they have calculated the average BrandTax for all the items sold in their store and they will calculate this tax quarterly and your account will show you the money you have saved by shopping at their store instead.
Instead of worrying about branding and taxing, Brandless says that they want to create products that match their customers’ values, preferences, and at times requirements. Their website says that “where it matters our products are non-GMO, sometimes organic, fair trade, kosher, gluten free, no added sugar and more.”
And finally, Brandless says that they want to give back to their communities, which is why they have partnered with Feeding America, the nation’s leading domestic hunger relief organization. Each time you shop on Brandless, a meal will be donated.
As mentioned above, all items for sale on the Brandless website will be priced at $3.00. In some instances, this may be slightly more than you are used to in your local grocery store, but most of the time this price will be less, and often significantly less.
Their website also offers something they call their B.More membership. This membership is priced at $36 per year and includes free shipping for all orders more than $48, faster shipping than non-members, the ability to “sneak peek” new items, invites to local events, and a double meal impact with each purchase.
Their website says that unfortunately, due to the nature of their items most of the products you purchase, customers will not be able to return many of the items they buy. However, Brandless still cares about their customers’ satisfaction so if you have any issues whatsoever, they ask that you email their Customer Service team within 14 days of receiving your order so that they can assist you.
