Breather.com is the online home of Breather, a company and a mobile application that offers people a way to earn extra income with their unused space, all while providing people with a quiet space to work, meet, or relax.
How Does It Work?
According to their website, the creators of Breather.com realized that there was a lot of time and work lost by travelers and business people who were unable to find a productive, quiet space to work in between meetings, flights, or any other activities.
To solve this problem, they allowed people with unused business space, meeting rooms, or any other appropriate area to rent out their space through their mobile application for as little as 30 minutes or as long as one full day. Though each physical space will vary, they promise that each Breather room will include pencils, pens, notepads, candy, and WiFi.
Once you make your reservation and arrive at your space, you will use the mobile app to “Check In,” and you will be given a PIN that will work to unlock the keypad on the door of your rental space.
The website says that while their spaces are intended to be used for work or for relaxation in between work activities, they do say that if you wouldn’t be comfortable doing a particular activity in your office, you shouldn’t be doing it in your rental space. A space that is misused may have additional fees assessed.
At this time it appears that the Breather.com mobile application is available on the iOS and Android platforms.
At this time, Breather.com offers rental spaces in New York, Boston, San Francisco, Montreal, and Ottawa. The prices of the space you rent will depend entirely on where the space is, how big it is and what it offers, and how long you are planning to rent the space. The Breather app will clearly display all the costs of the space before you make your reservation.
It is important to note that the first time you ever make a Breather reservation, your credit card will be pre-authorized for $250 in case there are any incidentals. These funds will be released immediately after you have completed your reservation, but it takes some banks longer than others to release this money back into your account.
Though the website does not offer their customers a published Refund Policy, they do say that their users are always welcome to cancel their reservation of a space up to one single minute before the beginning of their reservation, and they will be charged no penalty fees whatsoever. After your reservation officially begins, however, they cannot offer you refunds any longer.

Certainly with a service that allows empty spaces to be rented by the half hour, there have been some suspicions mentioned online about the company’s ability to truly monitor how their spaces are being used.
And while Breather.com says they will never put video monitoring or surveillance in their rooms, to ensure the protection of their clients’ intellectual property, they do say that each renter is essentially greeted by the Breather cleaning crew when their reservation is completed, so they almost always have face-to-face interaction with their clients and a reasonable understanding of how the space was truly used.
At this time, it does appear that this company enjoys many positive reviews and customers are generally happy with their service.
Competitors and Alternatives?
There are not many companies that are able to offer access to locations throughout major cities where quiet and effective work can be accomplished, so at this time it appears that Breather.com is somewhat unique.
