Crew.co is the online home of Crew, a new company that says their goal is to change the way that freelance designers and specialists are recruited by and work with individual project managers.
How Does It Work?
Anyone who has utilized the internet’s extensive choices of websites that specialize in helping people find freelance workers to work on projects for them is familiar with the way most of these sites work. You provide a general explanation of your project, and available workers will bid on this project. Generally speaking the freelance employee who bids the least money on the project and who has a favorable rating will be hired.
Crew.co realized this was a poor way of doing business – by asking people how little they were willing to work for, rather than “How well do your particular skills meet the needs of our project?” So they decided to change the way people found freelance employees.
On Crew.co you bring them the idea that you are working on and they will help you identify exactly what your project needs and the budget that you will need to complete it. Then they will provide you with the shortlist of people who are perfect for your project and have the availability to begin working on it right away.
Their website says that all their freelancers are carefully vetted, and their members report having a 93% satisfaction rate with the work done with the freelancers found through this website.
The website says that people are welcome to submit their projects to Crew.co and have it assessed completely for free. Once your project is approved and the budget is set, you will need to submit a $100.00 deposit that will be refunded to you if you are unable to find the right freelance employee for your work.
Before work on your project begins, a budget will be established and you will need to fund your project based on the payment schedule you have outlined in the agreement with your hired employee. Once the work is completed and approved by you, your funds will be released to the employee.
Unfortunately this company does not publish any kind of a Refund Policy for their customers, and they do not reference any kind of a Guarantee on their website either. They do say that customers will not be required to make any final payments on their work until they themselves have reviewed the work and approved it, so it may just be that Crew.co believes they have a process in place that negates the need for a Refund Policy.
If you believe that you have encountered circumstances which justify a refund of any fees you have paid, however, you should contact their Customer Service team as soon as possible so they can address your situation.

There are not that many reviews of this company and their work at this time, except from some tech blogs and magazines, all of which have positive things to say about this company and their freelance format. That being said, since this company does not have a Refund Policy, it is important that customers work with this company closely during the project assessment phase, in order to make sure that all their goals are clearly stated and they know exactly what they will be getting when the project begins work.
Competitors and Alternatives?
As mentioned above, there are many other freelance employment companies, but these companies use the format mentioned above, where the employee that bids the least generally gets hired. If you are interested in this format, there are many companies like oDesk.com and Elance.com available.
