Shopper Services

Shopper Services is an online service that claims to provide a variety of secret shopping resources to its members.  These include secret shopping training materials, certifications, and local job opportunity listings.  The question is do you really need Shopper Services to succeed as a secret shopper?

If you don't already know, secret shopping is a tool that small and large companies use to check the quality of their employees' performance and customer service.  Basically, everyone knows that when your manager is around you will work hard, but a secret shopper lets companies test their employees in a realistic environment with no supervision.

Shopper Services has been around since August of 2003 and they make an effort to connect companies with a wide selection of secret shoppers.  However, the reason that many people complain about Shopper Service is because the company charges a membership fee and sign their members up for additional services.

The only way to join ShopperServices is to call a customer service rep who will take your information and mail you a $1.95 trial membership kit.  They will also sign you up for Explore USA and Value Plus all trial memberships that you will have to cancel to avoid further payments.

On top of this members that are familiar with secret shopping resources have accused Shopper Services of simply taking their money and redirecting them to existing secret shopping websites where free information is available.

The Shopper Services training has also come under fire since all they do is send you to a fast food chain to do a sample report.  This is a waste of time since you could actually be doing a real secret shopping job instead.

The truth is that you shouldn't have to pay for secret shopping information or training.  There are several free online forums where members share strategies, job locations, and additional resources.

I work online with a method where you can make several hundred dollars for a couple hours of work, whenever you have time.

This business is free to join and I won't charge you anything for the information, just let me know where to send you the info, Click Here.

Best of Luck,
Steve Albright

These people are scammers! If you gave them your card information, call your bank and cancel your card,i did! They take $1.95 from your account, and tell you to go online and do your first assignment, but you acctually come to this page of comments.Don't believe nor trust these people, they are horrible!

I got all the way through until he told me about signing me up for the extra website. I stopped him and told him it was ridiculous, and he got angry and said "well good bye then" I told him to wait a minute and I wanted to make sure he canceled he said he did and that our conversation was being recorded and if I said to cancel he had to cancel, still not being polite. I immediately called my Credit Card Company they said it was still showing an approval for the 1.95 but it hadn't been posted yet, then she set me up with a new card number, so that they can't make any more charges.
Those of you who are trying to get them to stop charging might want to try calling you creditcard companies or bank and see what they can do to help.

I seen an ad in the newspaper and called the number, the lady told me that I could make about $50.00 per assignment for $1.95 for registration fee for training. I gave her her my info and she told me about ohter trial basis stuff and I told her that wasn't interested in nothing else but she said it came with this. She said that I had to try the web store because that is where I would get a lot of my money from. but to make a long story short, when I tried to go to the website one of the links that I saw was WAHM so I read some of the reviews and immediately called to cancel in which she gave me a cancellation number but the other places told me that I wasn't in the system and to call back in 48 hours. I called my bank for the scam officer and told her everything and she said that she would cancel my debit card immediately so no charges would come out of my account. Thank you for a lesson well learned. This really did scare me.

The Veracity Group "shopper services" is not a legit company. I am a former employee there and I can say that the day I left there was a big weight off my shoulders. It literally sickened me to sell their services because I knew firsthand that the company was scamming the callers.Do not give out your credit card numbers! You should never have to pay to work. One of the reps put told her supervisor she felt ad for working there because she knew it was a scam and the supervisor basically said for her to think of it as making money for herself. Do not sign up

I canceled soon as I heard this review I even had to cancel my card and get a new acct so that no more charges would go through.

Did not pay them 1.95, don't give out information over the phone like credit, debit card numbers, but never received any info. on line or confirmation of any kind. It sounded good and I was gullible. Thinking of starting my own marketing company, so should all of you and do your own studies and secret shopping. I am sure it could be done with alittle ingenuity and honesty it is just collecting money for these things which is beyond me, oh well, oh yes I'd love to pay some of my debts which are piling up with no end in sight, Is the world coming to an end? What happened to the good old american dream? was it outsourced with everything else? We should say 'I'm tired of this and I not going to take it any more'! good luck all Ed

first of all this is not a scam!! yes there are definately free sites out there and yes i would participate in those. however, i do feel as though i should let people in on a little secret. the only pathetic people who feel as though they have been scammed and the very smart people who do not pay attention to what they are getting into. It is made very clear in the phone call that the initial fee is 1.95 and a monthly fee of 9.95/14.95/19.95 will be charged after 30/14 days, depending on when your sign-up date was, if they do not call to cnc prior to that window of time closing. ShopperServices even records it just in case there are any clerical errors. Only if the Cx give a yes or an ok to the info stated do they even get signed up. So it is definately the consumers fault if they: A. do not pay attention to what they said yes to and B. if they dont call after 2months+ to cnc and are charged for the monthly fee!!! Oh yes and about the bonus programs! there have been loads of those and ... read more »

I called about the mystery shoppers ad in the penny saver. The person I talked to had me going for a while there, but then she asked for a credit or debit card number, I asked if could mail a money order to them she said no. I told her I didn't feel comfortable giving her that information. She assured me that everything was legitimate I still wasn't comfortable. My phone ended up shutting off due to alow battery. I decided to check their site out and I came across this site. Thank God.

Don't get mad - get even. And do it legally. The Federal Trade Commission monitors this stuff on a national basis. Go to ftc.gov and file a formal complaint - right now. It'll take less time than your phone call to ShopperServices.com. Then print it out so you'll have a documented copy of the action you took - in case you need it later (fraudulent use of your credit card, identity theft, etc.).

Call your local BBB, and the Atty.General's ofc., and your local newspaper if they have a "consumer watch" section.

You didn't do anything wrong, and don't stop trusting people - just be very careful about who you trust. The world needs more people like you - honest earners, and less people like them - the scammers who have to resort to these tactics to make a dishonest buck.

Good luck to you all - and remember to pay it forward!

This information will help you: The customer representative with shopperservices with was very smooth, yet pushy and pressuring. She told me that they were registered with the better business bureau (which could mean anything). Later she had me listed as agreeing to other services when earlier I stated very strongly that I didn't want anything else. This was the red flag. I refused to do the recorded agreement on audio tape at the end of our conversation (which prevents authorization), then immediately called my credit card folks to cancel my credit card (which prevents any other billing possibility) and will have a new one sent to me within 3 to 10 days.

I was sure there is something fishy, because after asking me about the address and phone number, which they already had known, the woman came up right to credit card information.I asked twice if they had a web-site so that I can go through and then I'd make a decision. She told me I wouldn't be able to log in,if I didn't pay the register fee of $1.95.And she talked so sofly and fast,so I couldn't get everything.Always be alert for your personel information, especially when money are involved. I am glad they didn't catch me,but this is because of my bad experience in the past and my friend's mistakes like that.Somebody has to do something about it.

I contacted shopper services after seeing an advertizement in the 'want adds'. I had heard of 'secrete shopper's' and I was told how easy it was to complete the required training and start making money. I wasn't mailed anything but told to go to the website, complete some online training, then to print the training reports and 'shop' a fast food restraunt and a retail store. Then, return online and record the information. After my reports were reviewed, I would be notified via my e-mail address and provided names of places I could sign up to be a secrete shopper and make $$. I did my part. I did save all my notes taken during the initial call I had made to shoppers services, (3-25-08) Now I'm pissed off and think I'll follow up on why they didn't follow through on their end.

I have been a stay at home mom for years with four children. Bringing home extra income is imperative these days. This company takes advantage of people who are not in the workforce and do not have a vast knowledge of business internet scams. The tests that they give you and the "training" they provide set you up to never succeed in passing. I plan on reporting them to the BBB.It's all just a scam to get your money.

I thought I had written down the website incorrectly until, I found this website. I feel so betrayed! I JUST HOPE THE NEXT PERSON WILL LOOK INTO THE RATINGS BEFORE SIGNING UP. This service sucks!!! I signed up, read the training "manual", did the test shops, and when I sent the report, I got an email back saying it was rejected. Why?? I then emailed shopper services and surplus supplier to cancel my subscription. Shopper services did, surplus supplier did not and I have now lost almost $80 to these ppl so now that I have finally found the customer service # for surplus supplier I will be wasting my day doing something that should have been done 2 months ago!!

Shopper Services is a total scam and lies, you can't get a refund from Surplus Supliers, as well as all the other comments listed by other "scamee's". I feel that the better Business Association, as well as the U.S. post office needs to know about this !!! People work too hard for what little money they get to have some fly by night scammers more or less stealing it !!

I just recently signed up for shopperservices trying to make some money.I got the job listing online. When I keyed in shopperservices and looked to the side and saw shopperservices scam and clocked on that and saw these reviews.I just called from my cell phone which is the number I registered with and got no answer. Then I called from the home phone and got an immediate answer.I was told by Patrick #4070 that it should be no problem canceling and he gave me the number to customer service.of course, they are closed. If I cant get anyone on the line Monday my card will definitely be canceled! I will keep you updated!

Thanks!

Sorry to hear you all fell fot it. I am an experienced Mystery Shopper with 50+ shops and never had to pay for anything. The minute I was asked which credit card, I told the operator,"I don't think so". The operator then said, if I was to change my mind go to the website and register. As a Mystery Shopper, you're not supposed to pay to join or register. Best Wishes & Good Luck to all!

It amazes me that not one of the posts on this site tells that a recorded audio verification is done at the end of your call. The rep went over all of the charges with me and I had to give an audible answer saying AI authorized the charges. Yes, there are allot of low paying jobs available but once you do more assignments there are assignments available that pay allot more. They told me what I put in to this is what I'll get out of it-did y'all miss that part?

Most of the Reps on the phones are Drug Addicts and Ex Convicts.(At least 90% are) I beleive this company was created to hire ex convicts who can't find real jobs. Well just like everyone else I should have known better its not worth it. Some other company hired me and only pays 10 bucks a shop and I am suppose to be paying "shopperservices.com" 15 bucks a month. Now I am worried about my information being shared and I all I was trying to do is make a little extra money. I think as soon as you feel it in your gut it might be a bad idea follow it.

UGh! This is one disgusting SCAM! STAY AWAY!! Logged on to the website provided and got onto this site, and freaked out that I,like so many others, got scammed. After reading about the appalling experiences of so many, I immediately called the "customer services" number, and was never able to get through... There's No way to cancel if you can't even contact them! Called my CC company and am having a new card issued (takes 5 business days)and a fraud alert put on my account. For all of you out there,it's probably the only way to prevent future unauthorized charges to your account. The $1.95 is no big deal, but I'm greatly concerned about future fraudulent activity by these con artists.

HELP! I’ve been scammed by shopperservices.com. I am new to mystery shopping. Shoppersevervices was the first company I signed up with, and they railroaded me. Over the phone they told me they needed my email address, phone number and physical address. I thought this would be for business reasons; to contact me for assignments. I immediately began getting SPAM, telemarketers, and junk mail. They also needed my credit card information for postage and handling of $9.95 to send me training material. I also had to pay two more fees of $9.95 for some kind of shopping and traveling discount programs. I had about 12 days if I wanted to cancel. I was told the material would be here in 5 days. It arrived in 10. The training material was nothing but a few pages of a disclosure filled with legalese. Snuggled in this mess in very small print were two more fees of about $30.00 each. There are twelve days in the trial period and it took 10 day for me to get the material. Now there are 2 days left. I... read more »

I fell for the ad in the RJ, and called to apply. I spoke with a rep, giving her the info requested, then got all the other add-ons brought up. I declined them, stating I just wanted to apply for the Mystery Shopper.
I was told to log on and fill in the form on line.
When I logged on I came upon this site, and read thru it, realizing I had really blew it!
I have called to cancel, without completing their "test", and was given a confirmation number for the cancellation, and told my $1.95 would be creditied within 5-7 working days.

As the wife of a police officer you would think I would have known better. I saw the ad in the local paper. My oldest daughter had been a "secret shopper" in NC. I thought this was the same type of thing. After I had given all of my information, including my cc, to operator #4115, Lonisha Freeman, as well as being put in to "Surplus Supplier.com, American Leisure and Easy Saver", costing $7.84 all together, did I began to wonder if this right. After I got off the phone I called my daughter to ask her about it. She advised that she never had to pay for anything. She sent me a list of the companies she dealt with. When I got on line to look up this company I came across this site first. After reading all of the comments I knew that I had been had. I called the phone number, 866-297-1823, to cancel. I spoke with Joseph and was given a cancellation #; the phone # for "Surplus Supplier", 877-414-5117; "Easy Saver", 877-844-9554; and "American Leisure", 877-564-8538. I too, fell for the sales pitch and decided I couldn't go too far wrong with an investment of 5.85, so agreed to the program.
I tried 4 or 5 times to log on for the training and
after doing as instructed (and reviewing their instructions)never did get anything except there was record for me. I just checked THIS web site and am now telling them I want to cancel. I was on hold for over 20 minutes before speaking to anyone and was given a little hard time when I simply said I wanted to cancel. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one to fall for their deal, but am among a group of people who did the same dumb thing!! I was told that only one 1.95 would be credited to my card and that they have the recording of me agreeing to 2 additional charges of 1.95 each and that I understood they are not refundable. I certainly didn't understand it that way. So be it - I've learned a valuable lesson and guess I won't go broke if in fact I will be responsible for the 2 charges of 1.95. I also ca... read more »

I was online with Rodwyn Baker, and he became so ugly and pushy that I became concerned and told him I had changed my mind. I hung up, and he called me back, and got even pushier. I told him that when I hung up this time, not to call me back. That my husband, upon hearing the conversation (he was shouting so loud on the phone that my husband could hear him from 8 feet away) told me to hand up, and definately not do it.
