Real Writing Jobs Reviews – Legit or Scam?

May 6th, 2010  |  Published in Freelance Writing

RealWritingJobs.com is a website that’s designed to help people find a variety of writing jobs; they claim to have a ton of leads and are simply acting as middleman between writers and contractors.  These types of sites have been around before and usually provide mixed results.

The way that these sites work is that they have software that visits a collection of job search sites, freelance websites, and other places where work for writers gets posted.  They then return these results in your members’ area.

In most cases these are real writing jobs and are usually put out by website and blog owners who want cheap labor to fill their sites full of content.  Other examples my involve writing product reviews that again are used by webmasters.

The one thing you need to be careful off is overhyped promises of riches; you may have been told that you can get paid up to $125 for writing one article but that is by far the exception and definitely not the rule when it comes to working with sites like RealWritingJobs.com.

First off, the really high paying jobs require the ability to not only write well but to be able to write on highly technical issues like medicine or electronics.  Second, if these jobs do get publicly posted they are reserved for highly experienced writers that can provide web references for their work.

Bottom line is, don’t get too excited about massive payouts.  Realistically you’ll be looking at a range of $5 – $12 per article or blog post.  The sad fact is that real writing jobs along with other coveted work gets outsourced overseas; making it difficult for US based freelancers to compete or work for much lower pay.

Is RealWritingJobs.com a Scam?

It’s not a scam in the sense that they do what they advertise, which is provide you with leads for real writing jobs.  However, there are some issues with their billing policy and the value of their service.

When you join RealWritingJobs.com they offer you the membership as a 10 day trial for $2.95, after which you will have to pay $47 a month.  Now many people get ticked off at the idea of having to pay a monthly fee when in fact they’re there to try to make money.

There are also many cases where people don’t notice that the membership is really a trial and will cost them a monthly fee.  This is one reason why there are many complaints for RealWritingJobs.com; the other source of dissatisfaction comes from the service.

While it may be convenient to get your real writing job leads in one members’ area some people feel that it’s not worth the monthly cost.   Essentially you are paying for the convenience factor, you can just as easily make a list of job search engines, freelance sites, and writers’ forums and check these daily for work.

So you can join RealWritingJobs.com if you feel like you don’t have time to look for work on your own, just be aware that there is a monthly cost for using their site.
