A Closer Look Reviews – Legit or Scam?

November 25th, 2014  |  Published in Real Jobs

A Closer Look, found online at A-Closer-Look.com, is a marketing and mystery shopping company that gives businesses the necessary customer feedback they need to expertly improve their services and stay competitive within their industries.

According to their website, this company works with businesses in the Restaurant, Hotel, Retail Store, Health & Wellness, and Professional Service provider industries to help them get a better understanding of their customer relations and services.

They do this by employing “expert” mystery shoppers, who they say will provide their companies with detailed reports of their experiences as well as with suggestions for improvements or changes.

What is Mystery Shopping?

Mystery shoppers are employed by A Closer Look and then given an assignment to interact with a specific client of theirs. For example, they may be told to go to a local pizzeria for dinner, with optional specifics like ordering certain menu items or “experiencing” certain issues or problems during the meal.

The mystery shopper then provides a professional report on their experience, including specific details and feedback and opinions on their experience and what could be improved. It is important that this report be as clear and accurate as possible, so companies know they are receiving the most reliable information.

How to Sign Up

People who are interested in becoming one of their mystery shoppers must submit a valid email address to their website and they will be emailed an application as well as be given access to their “Pre-Application Information Guidelines” which explains their company guidelines for shop assignments.

The application will include questions about spelling, grammar, math, and logic, as well as a section of the application where you will have to provide a written narrative about your most recent fine or casual dining experience “in a clear and concise manner.”

Finally, you will also be asked to provide all relevant contact and demographic information and complete a “Shopper Qualifying Test.” Applicants must pass their test with a score of 7 or better in order to be eligible for hire.

A Closer Look also regularly hires both schedulers for their mystery shopping experiences, and editors to look over submitted reports. Unfortunately this website does not publish payment or rate information for their employees at this time.

WyzAnt Reviews – Legit or Scam?

October 23rd, 2013  |  Published in Real Jobs

WyzAnt.com is the home of WyzAnt, a digital marketplace where tutors of all ages and subjects can connect with new students to earn a supplemental or full time income based on their schedule and client base.

WyzAnt says their digital marketplace benefits tutors because they handle all payment issues, secure communications with new clients, administrative duties, and are one of the most popular websites used by clients to find tutors in the US.

According to the website, 90% of their active tutors say that this marketplace is the best source they have found for reaching out to new customers, and new tutors can register at their site completely for free.

How It Works

New tutors can sign up at WyzAnt for free and create a detailed profile intended to appeal to new clients. These profiles include pictures, biographical information, credentials, tutoring history, and – eventually – client feedback.

Tutors can set their own hourly rate, usually between $30 and $60 per hour, and WyzAnt takes between 20% and 40% of your rate based on the number of hours you have tutored through their marketplace.

The website says this is less than the 60-80% of commission usually taken by other professional tutoring agencies. In addition, WyzAnt says they are more successful than traditional agencies at creating long term tutoring relationships because they don’t arrange tutors – they let clients choose the tutors they believe are the best fit for them.

What to Know

To better facilitate your ability to earn money from their site, WyzAnt offers both in person and online tutoring so their students and tutors can have the most flexibility. Also, though WyzAnt does sometimes provide discounts to the students who purchase tutoring packages, all discounts are taken from WyzAnt commissions and not from your hourly rate.

Though the website says that successful tutors can make over $50,000 a year working with students, they do admit that building this kind of client base is both time consuming and difficult, though not impossible.

In general they recommend that you use this opportunity to make supplemental monthly income, creating a tutoring schedule that works with other jobs or money making opportunities you are using.

PartyLite Reviews – Legit or Scam?

September 27th, 2013  |  Published in Real Jobs

PartyLite, found online at PartyLite.com, is a company which says they are focused on creating quality home fragrances and accessories, as well as giving their employees the ability to “create their own path to success.”

Started in the early 1900s by a schoolteacher who began crafting her own fragrant candles at home, in the early 1970s PartyLite Gifts became a direct selling business which focused on giving women the ability to enter the workforce on their own terms.

They currently have over 68,000 consultants in countries all around the world who sell their top quality home fragrances, candle accessories, flameless fragrances, and Two Sisters gourmet food products.

Direct Selling

Direct selling refers to the type of selling that is not done in a set, fixed location, like a retail store. Instead, the consultant sells directly to their customers, in home, at organizations like home parties, and online from personal websites.

PartyLite consultants will earn 25% profits on the sales they make, as well as a bonus income of 32% when monthly sales total $2,000 or more. Monthly sales include all sales from parties, your PartyLite website, and customers who order from you directly.

According to their website, one party each week and one online order each week will give you $400 a month in income. These figures are based on an average of $350 in party sales and online orders which total a minimum of $50.

How To Get Started

There are three different ways to get started as a PartyLite consultant. First, you can simply pay $99 and sign up online with their simple “Start Now” form to receive your sales kit.

But there are two different ways you can get started with PartyLite with no money out of your own pocket. First, you can just schedule a starter show. Hosting your own show which results in $350 in sales can get you your starter kit for free.

And second, you can start gathering orders. Once you receive $350 in orders for PartyLite, you can also receive your free starter kit.

Keep in Mind…

Direct sales opportunities do have the benefit of giving the consultant all the control over how much they work and when they work, which directly results in how much they will earn each month.

But this doesn’t mean that direct selling is easy. It will require a lot of hard work, flexible scheduling, and the ability to network with people, reaching out to new customers and creating new client bases to continue expanding your sales.

TeleTech Reviews – Legit or Scam?

March 14th, 2013  |  Published in Real Jobs, Work at Home Jobs

TeleTech is a work at home opportunity found online at HirePoint.com, which gives people the chance to truly find a part time, telecommuting job prospect that they can do successfully from the comfort of their home.

Most jobs you find online are not real jobs being offered by employers. Rather they are at home business opportunities that require a lot of time and effort – and many times, a lot of money – to get up and running before you can rely on a steady income.

TeleTech, on the other hand, genuinely offers a work from home opportunity, which gives you the chance to keep a specific schedule with a steady pay rate and a bi-weekly direct deposit paycheck.

How Does TeleTech Work?

TeleTech is a business process outsourcing company, not unlike competitors Alpine Access or Convergys, which partners with major companies from all over the world and helps them find and train a team of at home employees to handle important business functions that don’t necessarily need to be conducted from a brick and mortar office.

These functions include customer service phone calls, as well as “back office processing” such as financial transactions or social media management responsibilities.

TeleTech job opportunities are not available nationwide, unfortunately. They currently do not offer positions in eight of the fifty states, and the only Canadian location they service is Nova Scotia.

TeleTech Requirements

If you are interested in working with TeleTech, you must be able to meet certain requirements. First, you must have a dedicated home office that you can ensure will be quiet and interruption free for at least 4-6 hour shifts each day you work.

You must be able to work a minimum of 20 hours a week, as well as have a personal computer, high speed internet service that is a cable, DSL, or fiber connection, and a landline which will only be used for work calls during work hours.

If you do not have a landline currently, TeleTech says that you may wait until after you have been offered a position to order one.

Finally, you must be able to successfully pass a series of skills based exams, including one where you show an ability to appropriately use their software system. After you are hired, you will have to complete training before you can begin earning money, but unlike other telecommuting companies, you will never be required to pay for training.

Compensation for working with TeleTech depends on the final position you’ll be offered, what company you will be assigned to, and how many hours you work each week, but you will be given an hourly rate and paid bi-weekly.

LiveOps Reviews – Legit or Scam?

August 30th, 2012  |  Published in Real Jobs

LiveOps, at www.LiveOps.com, is a national call center that provides work at home opportunities to those who qualify to be one of their independent agents. They provide the flexibility of your own business with the stability of traditional employment.

LiveOps operates a virtual call center which employs over 20,000 sales and customer service professionals. These professionals are independent contractors, who act as their own boss, set their own schedule, and choose where and when they work.

In addition, LiveOps provides their employees with a community of other independent agents they can talk to for advice or support, as well as extensive tools and resources to help their employees with various problems they may encounter.

What Qualifications Do You Need?

Anyone can work for LiveOps, as long as they meet a series of minimum requirements. First, LiveOps does not provide any equipment for you to perform your work duties, so you must be able to provide the following.

You’ll need digital landline phone service provided by AT&T, Verizon, or Comcast, as well as a corded telephone and a corded headset compatible with that phone, in addition to DSL or cable modem wire connection to the internet; wireless connection not allowed.

Finally, you’ll need a desktop computer or laptop with a 1 GHz Intel Pentium P4 Processor, computer speakers, and a printer. You’ll also need to meet a wide variety of software requirements, which are laid out in detail at LiveOps.com.

You will also need to complete a credit check and a background check. There is a fee for the background check, which you must pay, but understand that money goes to a third party service, not to LiveOps.

What Can You Earn?

LiveOps cannot give estimations of earnings, as earnings depend completely on the clients you work with, how many hours you work, and the volume of calls you handle during that time period.

Some companies pay a flat rate, such as 25 cents per minute of talk time, while others pay a flat rate plus commission, and still others only pay commission. You can choose which companies you prefer to work with.

LiveOps cannot hire you unless you successfully complete their certification process. This process can be completed within a week, and have you working with clients in no time.
