YTB Travel
YTB Travel or Your Travel Business is a large
publicly traded multi level online travel
marketing company. There are two parts
to the business, one which involves the
booking of travel accommodations and the
other involves a multi tier sale of the YTB
home based business opportunity.
YTB Travel will provide those interested
in working in the travel industry with their
own travel booking website. YTB
employees Independent Marketing
Representatives (IMR) to sell these online
travel agencies and recruit Referring Travel
Agents (RTA).
Most people end up being RTAs and they do
not get the credentials to sell travel but
can process the booking through their
purchased YTB Travel
website and earn
commissions. The YTB travel website
costs around $400 upfront and an additional
$49.95 monthly fee.
The reason that some people call this a
YTB Scam is because they use many incentives
to focus on recruiting more RTAs rather than
selling travel. For example people can
get rid of the monthly payment if they have
recruited a certain amount of folks into
their down line. However your down
line needs to be maintained and if someone
drops out your monthly payments return until
the spot is filled again.
Further since YTB Travel is a publicly traded
company their financial history is
documented and available. In 2005
YTB Travel
made the majority of its profit from the
sale of these YTB websites and monthly
payments and not the sale of actual travel
products. The Better Business Bureau
has also recognized that YTB has a
significant emphasis on recruiting rather
than selling travel.
The commissions that an RTA earns through
their booking site range from 5-15%
depending on what travel accommodations are
purchased i.e. car rental or cruises.
Since travel is a very competitive business
and YTB Travel does not spend money on advertising
you will have to do your own.
YTB Travel themselves state that travel is a
seven trillion dollar industry. This
level of competition means getting people
outside your circle of friends and family to
book through your site is extremely
difficult. This combined with the
individually low commissions is why most
people end up reselling the opportunity
instead of just the travel.
However many people sign up with YTB
Travel to
accommodate their own high level travel
needs and for the discounts and bonuses that
YTB Travel promises. These include car rental
and hotel room
upgrades among other various bonuses.
Overall there are a variety of ways to
start your own travel business. YTB
Travel
does provide you with a booking website that
operates in conjunction with Travelocity.
However if you are not making your own deals
often you will not be able to beat
competitors travel prices. YTB
Travel works well with people that have an
aptitude for sales and recruiting committed
down lines.

it is easier to Succeed in, and is Cheaper to join, with no Monthly Payments.
How do I know its better? I use to be in YTB. |
Art NJ | 3:10pm on Wednesday, July 15th, 2009 | My friend wants me to join ytb because I make decent money on the computer. It seems like a decent opportunity so I might try it. |
kia Location unknown | 1:52pm on Monday, June 8th, 2009 | Every business has it pros and cons to have a successful business you have to work at it and educate yourself. If you have a full time job and a family of it will be much harder. With YTB its all about marketing if you pay your money YTB is not going to market your business for you they do train you to increase the "bottom line" for them and for you, but if you do the booking part of it you can make money the problem at hand is you have to realize this is your business you are in control if you do nothing, nothing will happen. It's hard to get people to sign up if they don't have the money but the booking part can be easy. If you brought into the business stick with it as long as you can. |
anonymous phila. | 12:35pm on Thursday, June 4th, 2009 | ytb was not for me . I purchased a site in oct. 2008 and tried and tried to get people to check this opportunity out but had no success. I failed the system did not but when i joined i did not research enough before jumping in. Please research and make sure this is something for u. I don't regret ever joining but i am upset because i should have taken more time to rush in. the travel part of the business is awesome but the recruiting part is a joke because u have to push and lie and cheat people to get them to sign up. ytb be is not a scam if u are business minded and a mlm. unfortunately for me I am neither. |
marcello Location unknown | 2:57pm on Tuesday, March 10th, 2009 | If you pay attention it says that they pay 60% of the commission. For example if the commission for a trip could is 10% of a $100 = $10. You get 60% of the $10 which is $6 dollars. If you plan to book 1 trip a month, you might as well forget it because that won't cover your expenses.
If you are a business person you would know that you need to do volume. What i have been noticing about alot of the people who complain is that they do not have a clue about business or marketing. Before you do anything have a plan look at the positives and negatives and work with it if you want.
Statistics are that most small business will fail in the first year (99%) due to undercapitlization etc. If you are going into a business spending $500 initial investment and $50 a month and getting what you get that is not bad. But with any business you have to put in the work! Money does not grow on trees.
I just closed my business where i had to carry at least 1/2 million dollars of inventory on the floor in which only 75% of that inventory will sit and this is not including inventory in warehouse, plus lease costs and other overhead costs. That means you basically have to put out $375000 that just going to sit there to sell $125000 worth of product. You have to realise most business operate under a deficit(i won't go into why's) because if you have ever ran your own business you know why. Just look at what is happening in the economy.
It is all about volume. You need to figure out how to do that. As for the mlm part not quite my cup of tea, but if you believe in your product you can sell it. |
Loving YTB Florida | 7:15am on Wednesday, January 28th, 2009 | YTB is a business and you have to work it as such! All the training is provided and it is up to the rta/rep to attend and learn, most of it is online and you can take the classes on your own. When people purchase businesses they have to know how to operate one and most of the time it is through experience and training!! People get real! ANY new venture in life is worth what you put into it and the experiences good/bad will last you a lifetime, but it is up to you! Yes, YOU to do it! The people that complain need to step back and take a good look and ask questions! Find out what they are doing wrong! Like I mentioned before, you get what you put into it and you have to take the steps and LEARN about your product! YTB is a wonderful company that has provided the product and is growing so, learn and grow, or get out of the way. Just remember, this is a business not a get-rich-quick scheme!! To your success, whatever road you may take good luck! Just remember, learn your products! |
agent know it all unknown | 8:47pm on Tuesday, January 20th, 2009 | YTB knows Crap about booking cruises.. they are all so dumb, well i shouldn't say all are dumb, but 99.9 % of their agents know a darn thing.. One time i talked to an agent and he didn't even know what an obstructed ocean view cabin was,, I used to work for the cruise lines a long time ago i would expect them to know more than that.. i have always dreaded getting ytb on the phone..because i always knew that it would be a phone call that would last an hr or more.. !!!! All they do is pay all this money and all of a sudden they are travel agents .. They don't even know their IATA number most of the time!!!! They need to be taken out of business!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
tania calgary canada | 3:15pm on Friday, September 5th, 2008 | I have made great money and paid off my expenses in a months after signing on. Some people get into this business for the mlm and some for travel. Whatever it is you have to work for it. Nothing is ever handed to you.
I was at convention and it was fantastic!
Go and try any other business and see how much money you have to put into it before you make even a penny of profit! YTB is easy!!!!! Just work with it! |

Lashan Location unknown | 7:48pm on Wednesday, August 20th, 2008 | I think YTB is great you only get what you put in and that's any business. People who have started and didn't make any money those people where probably sitting on the couch waiting for a miracle to happen instead of getting up and out there doing something with their business. Because this is a real business. So to all you sour graapes out there you'll never exceed in any business of your own if you don't know how to work your business. I LOVE YTB!!!!!! |
C na | 11:36am on Monday, August 11th, 2008 | Can some one comment as to the actual service/reliability/economical aspects of ACTUALLY BOOKING A TRIP through ytb? For a travel company, it sure doesn't talk about travel, rather about becoming a sales/recruiting rep. Please point me to travelers reviews or better business reviews if possible... Thanks |
J. Pettie Los Angeles, Ca. | 3:18pm on Wednesday, July 30th, 2008 | YTB is AMAZING, and is changing the lives of many!! Although the business is solely based around travel, there are more than 18 streams of income. The compensation plan is unheard of, with bonuses and incentives one would never be able to receive working an average 9-5! Having been in this company a little over 1 year, I have been given the opportunity to meet many amazing people who have become like family, always willing to help and work together so that all individuals in this company can get ahead.
The founders have honestly built this business with a vision based on pure integrity, value, and remarkable intelligence which is an honor, and refreshing at the same time. "Coach" has taken the greed out of MLM, and changed the reputation for MLM's placing YTB in a class of it's own. His desire to create a business that continues to give, and heighten the lifestyle of anyone that joins proves him trustworthy.
The amount of money to be made in this business is limitless, and doesn't demand that you have any experience or expertise. Just follow the steps that those who are successful in this business, are gladly giving to you. This business, if you want it to, and if you make it, WILL allow you to start living your dreams as your reality! |
TravelChill Long Beach, CA | 12:37am on Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008 | I have done my fair share of research on the internet and YTB has proven to reputable in my opinion. I found that YTB offers the same great discounted rates as the other top travel search engines such as SideStep and Kayak. Second, the affiliate program, or the commission they pay you is the same as all the other travel companies that offer affiliate programs. Finally, they offer a great rep recruiter program with many monetary incentives to top off the whole program. Not to mention the other discounts you can get with your own travel. Compare the rates for yourself |
Mindy Gilmer Missouri | 9:20am on Sunday, July 6th, 2008 | I think Debby Garrett (see her comment below) is not really a travel agent. Otherwise, she would know that YTB earned probably around $350 off her $3500 vacation and they gave her 60% of THAT. If she was a real travel agent she would have known that. Thats why people that don't know anything about the travel business really should not bother to take advantage of this opportunity, unless you are willing to learn. Not just pay your fee and book a couple trips and expect to be making buku bucks. Its a good program if you want to be a home based agent, but that in itself takes a LOT of work and there are other host agencies out there that pay more commission. You just have to do your research and weigh out the pros and cons of each host agency. If you are looking at YTB because of the whole recruiting system of making money then I'm afraid I cannot comment on that, it seems kinda pyramid scheme to me, the travel side of it however is fine. |
Jim St Louis | 4:17pm on Sunday, May 4th, 2008 | 74% of YTB revenue comes from selling sites/sites fees, another 9%/10% or so from training (fees that RTA pay to get training) and only 14% comes from travel (check the company's annual report)
YTB focuses on recruiting. The system will eventually fail unless YTB increases travel revenue.
I would be careful before joining the company or pay $500 to join. Many people believe in the company and I could be a fool who does not understand the system.
YTB states that it has sold $500MM in travel but you must keep in mind that YTB has more than 120,000 RTA
According to YTB, its revenue from selling sites is growing at faster rate compared to travel
Revenues
(INFO FROM ANNUAL REPORT: Net revenues totaled $141,285,474 and $50,896,730 for the years ended December 31, 2007 and 2006, respectively.
· Online travel store sales and monthly web hosting fee revenue increased $66,768,824 or 181.0% in 2007 to $103,656,435 from $36,887,611 in 2006. The increase was due to the significant growth of YTB Marketing and an accompanying increase in the number of active RTAs. We believe that the significant growth in RTAs was attributable to (i) the emerging market shift to the Internet for travel services which presents the opportunity for advancement of products and services by referral relationships, and (ii) the boom in home-based businesses. In addition, an increase in the sales price for websites to RTAs from $399.95 to $449.95 effective October 1, 2006 was also partially responsible for the increase.
· Travel booking commissions for 2007 increased $13,131,541 or 178.3% in 2007 to $20,495,954 from $7,364,413 reported in 2006. The increase was attributable to an increase in the number of customers who utilized the Company as their travel provider in 2007, due to the significant growth in the number of RTAs.
It should be noted that while only the commissions arising from our RTAs’ booking of travel services are reflected as a component of our revenues in our financial statements, we also keep track of the aggregate retail value of all travel services that are booked by our RTAs (which directly impacts our commission revenues). The value of such travel services increased 83.7% in 2007 to $414,480,364, from $225,676,569 in 2006.) |
Randon Taylor Las Vegas | 3:20pm on Sunday, March 23rd, 2008 | Debby Garrett- I don't know if you're dumb or what. 60% commision is 60% of the commision paid out NOT 60% of the total cost of the trip. I can't believe you were stupid enough to think you'd get 2 thousand dollars in commision for that trip. |
Debby Garrett Moro, IL | 3:43pm on Saturday, March 15th, 2008 | I jumped in this ??? by giving it my 100%, I sent out 100+ emails, sent over 200 letters to family, friends and business's. I spent $700 on the initial fee, including the 6 months I was a member. Spend even more than that getting business cards and my own website. I was told I would earn 60% commission on bookings that was used from my site. TOTAL RUBBISH!!! I booked a trip to Cancun for my family of three. The total cost of our trip was $3500. My commission check was $200. Instead of 60%; I earned .06%. Not much truth to those promises of 60%. To top it all off, we had problems with our trip from the time we landed in Cancun. First of all, our transportation to our motel (that we had already paid for) was not there. We searched for over an hour until we were able to find somone who spoke English. Finally, our transportation was taking us to our resort. Guess What??? The resort showed our reservation had been rescheduled from May to June. Which we did not do!!! It took several hours (talking to various managers) before we were finally given a room. My husband was extremely upset. Needless to say, I convinced him that since YTB was giving us such a great deal, it was worth the headaches. Why not, with my 60% commission on a $3500 vacation, we would be getting this luxurios resort for only $1400. Little did I know, two months later when I received my commission check it would only be for $200. And yes, I did complain. They deducted the transportation fee from the airport to the motel for me. WOW!!! After my commission check, I stopped the $49.95 monthly payment I had to send to maintain my membership. Since I'm from the same area this company is located, I figured it would be a great company to work for. |
David Location unknown | 10:33am on Monday, December 24th, 2007 | My wife and I own a travel and entertainment business through Your Travel Biz (YTB). YTB offers travel around the world and tickets to all events whether it be concerts or sporting events. YTB also offers you the opportunity to get others to join the company. |
M. Dominique Location unknown | 4:52pm on Friday, December 21st, 2007 | YTB is absolutely incredible. It is a true travel businesses in which you can enjoy great rates on the travel side which will earn you commissions and also refer others on the marketing side who may want to create residual income which is totally optional There are over 18 income streams with the company and the founders are truly visionaries and men of great integrity that continue to over deliver. I have been with the company over 2/12 yrs and it has put my checks in the comma club and I have traveled to places that only working this business being personally mentored by millionaires has taken me! It is truly a life changing business! |
