ripped off!

i signed up for the 1 week free trial, started it on the 19th of february, last i heard from my counsellor was on the 21st and they just charged my account 32 pounds without even notifying or contacting me at all in the slightest for the past week. i cancelled before the week ran out and I'm being charged that amount. i live alone am 18 years old and live on 71.50 a week. i now have 29 pounds to feed me, buy electricity and gas for the week and I'm also expecting a baby. i have emailed but as its a friday i have to wait until monday to see if anything is going to happen and even then i don't know if anything will! I'm so stressed out about what I'm going to do the entire week, i literally have no money now to live on and I'm freaking out!

I singed up with Betterhelp for a free-trial service and then unsubscribed from the site but it kept charging me every month. after I realized, I contacted them but never received an answer. I was charged 500 pounds for no service at all.

My first therapist at BetterHelp wasn't a good fit. When I reached out to them, they immediately got back to me and offered an additional free trial week so I could try a new therapist. The second time has been the charm for me. I'm so grateful to have my therapist at the other end of my keyboard/phone at any time I might need to reach out. My therapist is amazing at just being there for me, and I depend on her as someone I can talk to about the most difficult challenges I face every day. If you need someone to talk to, give BetterHelp a try, and let them know if it's not working so they can work with you. Good luck to you.

I was originally extremely disappointed with this company, but after the last review I posted, BetterHelp finally responded to my emails and gave me a full ($170) refund. So I'm upping my rating to 3 stars; however, still would never recommend to anyone else.

Accessible and affordable counseling

I am traveling overseas for an extended amount of time and was sad to leave my therapist at home behind. Faced with many new challenges, I was thrilled to discover BetterHelp.com. I was even more thrilled when I found their financial aid department would review my current financial situation and adjust accordingly. The interface is easy to use and the unlimited access to a counselor is awesome. I highly recommend Betterhelp to anyone who is unable to access a counselor in person due to their location or schedule constraints.

Worse now after locating than site

I am going through some very difficult times being a caregiver for my terminally ill husband of 37 years. I felt like I was going to have a total breakdown or something, everything felt very dark. I was looking for a local Counselor in the area when I came across this site. I signed up for the trial period, thinking that is ALL I was signing up for. Before I ever connected with a Counselor I told my daughter about it. She was concerned about doing something like this on line and convinced me not to get involved with it. So I didn't. Now I have just discovered that they have been charging my credit card every month for 8 months a total of $1120.00!!!! They say it is because I never cancelled the service. I honestly do not recall ever, ever signing up on any agreement!! This is the last thing I needed right now! I'm the only one working, taking care of my husband and he has no life insurance. I have requested a refund.. I will post an update if I get one. If I don't I plan to forward my complaint to the Attorney General's Office. I can't afford to just throw money away like that, not too many can!

You responded by refunding only 50% of the $1120.00 that was charged to my credit card for a service that I NEVER once used or even realized that I had signed up for. In review of many of the other comments on here regarding your company I am not the only one that has been ripped off by "BETTER HELP". What are you doing with this money?? Since it's for a service and no service is being provided by a counselor, there is no one to pay. Since there are no appointments scheduled (since I didn't even know I had the service) there is no blocked time that has been lost. I want the rest of my money back. Please credit the other 50% to my credit card. I plan to pursue this through the Attorney Generals Office as well as any other recourse necessary. What a hideous thing to do, taking advantage of people that are already trying to deal with some very low places in their lives and a company called BETTER HELP shows up to make money off of these dire situations!!

I'm in graduate school, and recently got married. I had so much going on with social/family issues/relations that I was on the brinks of going into depression. It helps that you can choose not to reveal your identity, and be 100% honest with a professional counselor/therapist. As you know, in family or professional relationships you can't really talk sincerely/honestly about everything without being subjected to judgment or gossip. This site gave an outletI to vent, share, complain, whatever is bothering you and get constructive non-judgmental feedback.

The price is more than reasonable, because if you look up therapists in your area-it ranges in a higher per hour basis. You pay weekly, and get immediate feedback ranging from 10 minutes to an hour.

Just give it a chance, just getting yourself a little help makes a tremendous difference pertaining to your outlook at situations.

This was excellent, convenient, no driving, no pollution, it was super to be able to WRITE my thoughts instead of just blabbing them ... words lost to space ... now I can re-read what I wrote, or didn't write, it's like a diary, a journal ... also, there are times when the spirit moves me to communicate my thoughts and that is when I write, and conversely, there are times when I don't want to communicate my thoughts ... and is I were in a person to person session, I would be obligated to talk, and I might not be in the mood, and who wants to talk for 55 minutes?

I was having a bad week. It was overwhelming and I honestly felt like I was about to have a breakdown. I was surfing the internet and looked on Pinterest and happened to see an advertisement for betterhelp.com. I thought that's strange to see that on Pinterest, but I decided to check it out just out of curiosity. When I saw what kind of site it was I decided it was worth trying out. I mean, what did I have to lose. They offer the first week offered free. I signed on and was assigned a counselor and immediately she connected with what was going on with me. She offered pertinent and timely advise. I am very thankful for this website and recommend it to anyone.

I went through a few counselors. I couldn't find any that would make me want to spend the money to pay for this. I almost gave up, but then I got the counselor I have now. She's amazing and so caring. She keeps the mood light with little jokes, but she still takes my issues seriously. She's worth every penny, and so is BetterHelp.

Really bummed out with this company; I was shamed and ignored!! I did a free trial and decided to try a month; I paid over $100, and got absolutely nowhere with my counsellor. Instead of providing catering for my situation, she gave me vague breathing exercises. When I asked her to change the method we were using, she reprimanded me and said that "her technique works for everybody else". I looked her up on NPI and she wasn't even licensed!! There was somebody with an EXPIRED license under a different first name, but that was all!! When I wrote to betterhelp to complain, they insisted that she was licensed, and told me they were giving me a courtesy 1 week extension on my counseling. I signed up for a different counselor. It has now been 3 weeks, and I was never assigned a new counselor!! I e-mailed with a complaint and was ignored yet again. Extremely disappointed in my first counseling experience; do not use this company!! If you are inconvenient for their Yoga program you lose all your money!!

I sent this on Saturday and haven't received a response: I still didn't get the additional $25 I'm owed from November rolled over to December rolled over to January. My last message from a client was January 29th. There is no time zone in the world that could explain this. I was paid $325, which is what I earned in January, excluding the $25 I'm still owed. I want this $25 immediately with an explanation.

So I sent this yesterday and still haven't received a response: don't want to do this because I want to maintain a good working relationship, but I am going to make more serious efforts to get the $25 I'm owed after today. I have emailed numerous times, I have those emails saved where you have acknowledged I didn't receive that payment, screenshots of my payments on your site, as well as bank records showing my deposits. I expect to hear from someone today and have the $25 I'm owed deposited as well. Regardless of what $25 may or may not mean to you all and how many times I've been payed on time, I earned it and I'm owed it and this time I haven't been paid correctly. Plus you all withheld referrals from me for 2 weeks after I got upset about not being paid what I'm owed. You haven't paid what I'm owed, were insensitive about it, then withheld referrals.

The service from the counselor was okay, but as they state, it isn't a replacement for real therapy in person.

I did the free trial, then tried it for a month. I was then charged the following month thinking I only agreed to a one-month subscription. They charged a second month- I contacted them through the site and immediately closed canceled my subscription, but kept the account open. BIG mistake, I was just charged for a 3rd and unused month of their "services".

I'd say their contract is misleading allowing the person to believe they're paying for one month and one month only, then the proceed to charge the credit card month by month unless you specifically cancel it.

It's fine, but it's not real therapeutic helpful therapy. How can someone know me or care about me from an informal message twice a day?

I've had the free trial for the last week and I'm about to quit it before they charge me. The system seems set-up well enough. I got paired with a therapist who seemed to match the issues I had presented in my bio. However, the match making seemed to limit the therapist on what we could discuss, she was too fixated on those issues and didn't seem ready to listen. I want a therapist because I need to talk to someone! Instead she was very keen on offering solutions and exercises, which may work for some people, but I felt like she didn't even know me yet.

She seems like a legitimate therapist, she knows her stuff, can offer some help with little basic things (communication skills in a relationship, or how breathing exercises can help our brains- stuff I can learn by myself on the internet) but she didn't have the relaxed knowledge of a real professional. In the past my therapists have allowed me to express and explain myself a lot so that they can analyze and finally help me get to the "real" issue. All of that is to say: I think these therapists are probably young professionals without a lot of experience who are looking for an easy way to gain clients and make money from behind their computers.

Also, the site and the app aren't very user friendly. It's not awful but it needs work from a better developer.

This app was helpful in making therapy a very accessible option for me. From the comfort of my couch I could make the decision to get help, and now I've been empowered enough to say goodbye to the app and seek out REAL therapy with a face-to-face person who will get to know me and not send me a couple of sentences of text each day.

I used the free week trial and felt the counselling was of very low quality. I'd suggest if you're willing to fork out for this service, you can afford to actually pay a real-life professional and actually get some real help. I signed up because it seemed a lot less daunting than seeing a counsellor face to face but I didn't get any benefit from this this platform. I'm not convinced this service is very genuine, I think they are preying on the vulnerable to make a quick buck.

I've just started my counseling and thus far I feel much more care and concern than I ever have from my past experiences with face to face counseling. The aspect of BetterHelp that I feel puts the program a step ahead is that they take the time to match you with an appropriate counselor based on your specific needs. I have high hopes and look forward to continuing.

I, too, was skeptical about online "therapy" services, but signed up for the free week anyway. I have been very happy with my counselor, and find that it's easier for me to spend a half hour here and there in my day, typing up responses to her questions. I don't have to take time off work for an appointment, or I can sit on my sofa and do some deep thinking while coming up with a response.

All in all, it's been a great help and I recommend BetterHelp to anyone!

In the short time I’ve signed up, I’m already very happy that I did. The counselor has already taught me some extremely helpful techniques for dealing with my particular issues. I don’t have any suggestions, but I would like to express how great I think online counseling is. I know several people who have some of my similar issues, and I believe I speak for us all when I say that having someone available but not actually in person is a HUGE stress relief. Sometimes, as badly as we want help, the thought of having to look another human in the eye to talk about it is nearly crippling. This feels safer without feeling impersonal. So thank you ALL for what you are doing.
