About Ipsy

Ipsy, found online at Ipsy.com, is a website that provides customers with a monthly subscription service that delivers sample and full sized beauty products to your home each month.

How Does It Work?

When you go online to Ipsy.com, you’ll be asked to take a brief quiz about your appearance, including questions about your skin color, eye color, and hair color, and beauty preferences, including questions about skin care concerns, favorite kinds of makeup products, favorite kinds of beauty tools, the types of makeup looks you prefer, and more.

As an Ipsy member, you will be shipped a box filled with four or five different beauty products that are either deluxe sample sized or full sized, depending on the product itself, as well as a “collectible bag” that can be used for the products or anything you see fit.

Members also have access to online product tutorials posted by Ipsy stylists and informational articles. The company also offers options for “members’ only offers” and a chance to win products in contests and giveaways.

Once you have submitted your questionnaire and purchase your subscription, there is a chance you will be placed on a waitlist. There are two ways to get past this waitlist – to either actually wait it out, or to send invitations to other people to become members. Your credit card will not be charged until you are off the waitlist and are an active member, however.

Cost/Price Plans

The website only currently offers a single subscription option, and this option is priced at $10 per month, with a month-to-month payment schedule, and the website says that the guaranteed value of the products in the bag is more than $50. In addition, customers can choose to pay for a year-long subscription up front for $110, which is the equivalent of paying $10 for eleven months and receiving the twelfth bag for free.

Refund Policy

The website is very clear that they do not provide any sort of refunds for the monthly fees that are paid, nor do they provide any sort of prorated refunds for customers who pay for the annual membership. If a customer does experience any problem with their monthly delivery, or receives a broken or damaged product in their bag, Ipsy does ask that you contact their Customer Service team as soon as possible so they can address your problem.

Customer Service Contact Info

Customers who would like to speak to their Customer Service team about their questions, concerns, or complaints can do so by using their IpsyCare link at the bottom of their page, and then clicking on the Email IpsyCare link on the right side of that webpage.

Ipsy is a newer beauty sample subscription service, and they are working hard to build their customer base and spread the word. Because of this, there are a few different subscription blogs which have reviewed their product, as well as many different fashion and beauty magazines and websites.

Pretty much all reviews of this service are positive overall, but there have been some observations and comments made that prospective users may want to take into account. First and foremost, the quiz you take when you begin your subscription is fairly important, as many different people reported receiving wild shades, products, and colors they didn’t think they would ever really use, though they still understood that these samples were high quality.

In addition, people who were familiar with other, similar types of subscription services felt Ipsy was more aimed toward makeup samples and less toward skin or body care samples. And finally, a few different reviews commented that they thought this subscription service may skew toward a younger audience.

Since this company does not currently provide refunds for their annual subscriptions, customers may want to take those observations into account before deciding whether or not to opt for a long term subscription.

Competitors and Alternatives?

There are many other different types of monthly beauty sample subscription services, including Birchbox, Beauty Box 5, Sample Society, Glossybox.com, and many others, as well as boxes that are more designed toward home, lifestyle, hobbies, food, wellness, and more.
