About is the online home of Macat, a new educational company who says that their goal is to make “the ideas of great thinkers accessible and comprehensible to everybody, everywhere.”

How Does It Work?

According to the website, has two goals. The first is their general slogan, about making the ideas of great thinkers accessible to everybody, everywhere, and doing so at affordable and accessible prices. The second is to help the development of higher-order thinking skills.

To achieve both of these goals, this company takes the world’s most important and complex humanities, arts, and social sciences books and concepts and works in conjunction with PhDs and university professors to find a way to make them understandable for everyone.

These materials and resources are intended not just for use by people in countries with well developed educational and university systems, but for people all over in the world. In this way, can work both as a supplemental tool for some learners and as a stand alone resource for others.

Finally, this program is also intended to help people in the workforce improve and hone their critical thinking skills, which they believe is an important life skill that can help people in any position or circumstance.

Cost/Price Plans

Currently this company only has two different payment options. The first is to simply use their free materials, which includes their book summaries and their video summaries. Customers who want the ability to access more in depth materials and resources will need to upgrade to their paid membership, which begins at $10.00 per month.

This upgraded, paid account includes in-depth book analyses, Expert Collections, highlights and notes, offline access to video and audio, the ability to listen to the full analysis, and access to their iOS app when it becomes available in the Spring of 2016.

Refund Policy

This website does not provide any information at this time about refunds or a Refund Policy. This is likely because they offer the ability to check out some of their sources for free, and then once their customers do upgrade to a paid membership this membership is only paid for on a month-to-month basis and can be cancelled at any time. Most companies with similar payment structures don’t offer a Refund Policy, but people who feel as though they have encountered something that justifies a refund should contact their Customer Service team as soon as possible.

Customer Service Contact Info

Customers who would like to contact Customer Service with any questions, concerns, or complaints can do so by submitting them directly to their website through their Contact Us link.

Because this company is still technically in beta testing mode and hasn’t officially launched all of their features, it is hard to know how this company will be seen in the next few months to a year, as things change and new features are launched.

That being said, with their currently available features it does appear that this website is getting fairly positive reviews, but most of these reviews are being written and shared on educational websites and blogs and generally seem to be based on this website’s association with the University of Cambridge, and not much from actual personal use and evaluation of this website.

Competitors and Alternatives?

There are many, many different online educational companies and programs available today, all of which have different specialties and different goals. Some are geared toward helping college students improve their understanding and grades, others are geared toward professionals that want to gain new skills, while still others are made for people all ages and different educational goals. Some of the more popular options available are Khan Academy, Coursera, Learnist,, and many others.

I Use It Daily!

May27, 2017

College graduate preparing for grad school. Love this website because it takes information in small bits and increases the information depending on the 3-10-or 3 hour review. One way of looking at it is for about 3.5 hours, one can know the basic ideas of a book and save many more hours if the book is not interesting enough to read beyond these basics. The basic ideas will still be known. I often listen to the 3 hour analysis while folding clothes or sweeping, etc.
