About Online Marketing Institute
Online Marketing Institute, found online at OnlineMarketingInstitute.org, is a company who says their mission is “to provide the most practical, enjoyable experience” for people hoping to learn digital marketing.
How Does It Work?
According to their website, Online Marketing Institute (OMI) was established with the goal of educating marketers on “the known truths and best practices of digital marketing,” and have since created their industry-leading certification programs based on a wide variety of important skills and knowledge online marketers must possess in order to be successful.
Their certification classes are broken into two different levels. The first is their Level 1 certifications, which are designed for users who are beginners to the industry and do not have much personal knowledge of the marketing industry. These are “foundational courses providing 101-type information.”
They also offer Level 2 certifications, which are courses that are designed to give their students a more advanced understanding of a single component of digital marketing. Their website says that the goal of Level 2 courses are to teach you not only how to execute a program in a specific discipline, but also how to integrate that discipline with others.
All certification courses have a flat rate of $859, regardless of whether they are classified as a Level 1 or Level 2 certification. In addition, for customers who plan to pursue more than a single certification, they offer subscription based memberships.
These memberships are available in four different options. The first option is their Basic, month-to-month plan, which is priced at $27 per month and provides members with on demand access to all 250+ classes they offer. They also offer their Basic subscription paid annually for $197 per year.
They then provide a Professional subscription, which is priced at $47 per month, provides access to all classes, as well as live online workshops lead by leaders in the digital marketing industry, which can also be paid for annually at a rate of $397 per year.
Unfortunately at this time, the Online Marketing Institute website is very clear that they do not issue refunds, either for classes that are purchased outright or for subscriptions, regardless of whether they are being paid annually or monthly.
You are welcome to cancel your subscription at any time and you will still receive access to all materials and resources until the end of your subscription time period, but they do not provide any policy that guarantees a refund, instead saying that all refund requests will be handled on a case-by-case basis, with an understanding that it is not company policy to provide refunds in most cases.

The question of OMI’s reputation is one that is more complicated and difficult than it may seem. Unfortunately, there are hardly any reviews of their classes and resources from actual students who have successful completed one or more of their courses, which always makes it difficult to really know whether or not any company is providing the best quality service to their customers.
There are some third party reviews of this company, but most of these seem to be provided by companies that are somehow affiliated or partnered with OMI, making it difficult to know how much of their review should be taken at face value.
Something important to understand is that there is no real standardized certification offered for online marketing, social media management, or any of those related fields. When the Online Marketing Institute provides you with a certificate, it only shows that you have successfully taken a class, not that you have necessarily added an accredited or official certification to your resume.
Since there is no body of accreditation or organization that oversees these types of classes, true beginners may want to begin at one of the free online learning organizations if possible, in order to get their basic knowledge and to better have the ability to determine which, if any, OMI classes will really meet their needs.
Competitors and Alternatives?
As mentioned above, perhaps the best alternative to OMI are the large scale online learning communities which are growing in popularity, including the Khan Academy, Skillshare, Learnist, Coursera, and many others.
