About SolarCity

SolarCity, found online at SolarCity.com, is a new energy provider that says they believe in a better way to power homes and businesses which not only provides energy at a lower cost but results in a cleaner planet.

How Does It Work?

Customers do not have to purchase solar panels in order to use SolarCity's energy. Instead, you lease the panels from them for an upfront fee, and the panels are installed for free.

This company says their goal is to help their customers make this transition as easy as possible, by helping their customers with every step of the process, from the permits to installation, to all necessary monitoring and repair services.

Cost/Price Plans

The cost and price of your panel leases, as well as your monthly "guaranteed rate" will depend on your home, the amount of energy you are currently using, and other factors. If your home is unable to produce the necessary energy to cover your needs, you are able to use energy from the regular utility system "at a small fee."

Refund Policy

This is something all customers should discuss with their SolarCity representatives. The time periods for the panel leasing can be long, which makes it difficult for customers to transition service providers if they are not happy.

Though their website does not currently publish a Refund Policy or Cancellation Policy, customers may want to inquire about the recourse they have if they are unhappy with the service they are receiving.

Reputation

Unfortunately this company does have some serious complaints lodged against it. These complaints state that their leasing contracts are very long in length, and the "small fee" they are charged for energy from the regular utility providers is not actually small - the combination of the fee for the solar energy and the overage charges from the standard utility provider can add up to significant energy bills, and there is no way to get out of your contract.

Competitors and Alternatives?

There are many other solar energy providers available in various markets throughout the country today, which include Greener Dawn, Mosaic Solar, Solar Universe, and Solar-America.org.

GREAT COMPANY!

Reviewed By mike homchick on November 25, 2014, SO.CAL

I had a chat with the wife and once we decided that solar was a POSSIBILITY I PUT THE PROVERBIAL HOOK INTO THE DIGITAL WATER. I put requests out and after going thru them SOLAR CITY made a offer and we both talked to them on the phone and were HAPPY so we SIGNED UP. They came out and had it INSTALLED ALL THE WAY IN ONE DAY! GR8 WORK ETHICS ! And the support staff back at the office is great too. They spotted a possible problem in one of the inverters (they change the solar energy from DC to AC) and emailed and called us. They had a tech out in about a week to fix it. They have our system on a web-connect link so that can watch for problem 'back at the office'. GRAND PROACTIVE THINKING!! That's all.please call them and have a chat !!
